Why we publish scenario memos before polished dashboards
Sora Park · 2026-01-14
Dashboards tempt teams to skip the hard part: agreeing on definitions. At HarborMetric we often circulate scenario memos—lightweight documents with lanes, footnotes, and explicit unknowns—before any wide release of visual summaries.
This sequencing mirrors how allocation committees already read materials. It also keeps our software from becoming a theatrical prop. When visuals arrive, they rest on prose everyone has challenged.
Practically, we time memos with registration milestones for our Seoul summit so returning attendees see continuity between years. The memo format is boring on purpose; boring survives email forwards.
None of this replaces on-site diligence. It simply reduces the number of Monday mornings spent untangling contradictory spreadsheets.
